Saint Catherine is considered the protector of the Engineers as she was a
model of wisdom and education for her time and because she was martyred
on a wheel. She is also the patroness of virgin women and students. In
France, the philosophical school of Paris, out of admiration for the Saint,
declared her the patron saint of philosophy. This status of the Saint, which
spread rapidly, was accepted by many countries of the West.
