Saints Athanasius and Cyril weren’t just anybody. They didn’t hold a
position in Church in order to solve, let’s say, their personal or family
problems. They believed in Christ with all their heart and gave themselves to
Christ and to Church. They felt that they belonged to God –every man should
feel this way– they believed it and acted accordingly. No mat- ter how hard it
was for them in all respects, because they were severely persecuted,
especially saint Atha- nasius, they gave themselves to God and served Him.
Every Christian is called to do so.
Every expression that benefits the soul entails some kind of difficulty. It is
difficult to restrain your- self so as to talk more carefully, or to be silent when
you are mistreated, or to apologize when you are wrong, or to bear humbly
being exposed
