The unbeliever ignored what the source of true happiness is and ran, without realizing it, to the sources of bitterness. Pleasures brought him satiation and satiation brought him disgust. Disgust brought boredom, boredom brought sorrow, sorrow brought pain, and pain brought despair. Everything that had delighted him lost its grace. For all the pleasures of the world, being finite, are also incapable of making the unbeliever happy.
