In spiritual life things often look difficult. And soon enough, a man in struggle finds himself kicking back in rebellion. However, if man really wants to be a true Christian, if he wants to imitate the saints and knows that through this imitation he gets to be a true Christian, he will keep up the good fight despite seeming that he is getting worse and worse spiritually.
As man progresses spiritually, he sees all the bet- ter, discovers more and more of his egoism, and goes from one surprise to another: “My God, I wasn’t at all aware of what I was like inside! You knew it all along and still didn’t reject me!”
And he’s grateful to God who patiently waited for this awareness of sin, and his return to follow.
Christ approaches those who believe that they are in need of salvation.
