Someone who is mournful by nature and has sor row and melancholy in his heart, can turn all this, little by little, into spiritual mourning.
When you sink into the kind of sorrow that almost drowns you, treat it as a delicate matter that helps you run to Christ with repentance and good despair. “My Lord, the way I am, I can’t be saved. Don’t leave me. Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me. Lord Jesus Christ, save me. Lord Jesus Christ, accept and embrace me, as you do with all the others”.
No matter what situation we are in, what doesn’t let us run to Christ with joy straightaway –instead of remaining stuck with our self pity, sorrow and this whole bad condition– is our ego and selfishness. If you resort to Christ and keep up doing so, you’re relieved from your ego and all your graceless conditions
