God comes near us, God speaks to us. It is a very
big thing to be able to hear God’s voice, no matter
how it may reach us through events or situations.
It may even come to us directly. It is a very big
thing to be able to know it, to recognise it and
understand what God wants to say. Let us not be
engrossed in our own affairs, let us not give our
whole attention to them and miss the voice of God
altogether. God often wants to say something, but
finds us preoccu- pied and leaves.
Stay alert to hear God’s voice and understand
what He wants to tell you. Respond immediately,
as if you had already been prepared, just as the Vir-
gin Mary does. She receives God’s call, responds and
says “yes” as if she had always been prepared:
“Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me
according to thy word”.
